This is NOT a completely spoiler free review.

I’ve been a comic book fan since I was a kid. I’m 35 now and still have the comics from my childhood and the comic cards too. While I was a bigger fan of Marvel I still loved Batman and Superman. I never found a need to pick between Marvel and DC as a fan. I like aspects of both and enjoy their movies like any other fan.

With that being said.. Batman v Superman was just alright. It wasn’t great by any means and to say it was well done is a bit a stretch too. Right off the bat I was a bit put off by the fact that Ben Affleck was cast as Batman. Watching the movie you get over that pretty quick, he actually does a great job as the Dark Knight. I was pleasantly surprised. I like that they incorporated what took place during the first Superman movie into this one. It was believable and understandable why Bruce Wayne had his issues with the Son of Krypton. It was a great tie in between the movies.

What was not understandable was why the fuckin action took so long to kick off. This is a story that doesn’t need a whole lot of back story. You have two of the most iconic comic book characters ever drawn in the same movie. You could have trimmed the back story fat in order to have this movie take off. There were times that I was looking at my watch like, fuck, lets get on with this shit already.

Some of my biggest issues were with the villains themselves. The movie’s depiction of Lex Luthor for was terrible. Doomsday was a bit of a let down also. The makers of the movie made a few changes to the monster that just weren’t needed. I get that creative liberties are applied to movies to “spice” them up a bit, but sometimes they’re just good the way they are. Just allow Doomsday to be the hugely impact wrecking machine that he was in the comics and get out of the way.

So while the movie was overall enjoyable, it was edited awkwardly the first hour and a half. It left me feeling a bit let down considering it covered so many epic moments in the comics. I do recommend that people see it, maybe early in the day so you aren’t paying full price. Also, don’t bother with the 3D version. That turned out to be a waste of money.
